On January 14th Gyosei International Junior High School held its 3rd Annual Spelling Bee. Mr McMahon took the helm as the competition’s announcer, and lead the participating students through 8 grueling, fiercely competitive rounds of English spelling. All 13 students put up a strong fight, but it was J1A’s Hirari Aoki who managed to out-spell the other 12 spellers to claim a well-deserved victory. Hirari will now go on to compete in the Japan Times National Spelling Bee in Tokyo in March where she will be up against the best young spellers in the country. We wish her all the best in the Tokyo competition.
